So again this isn’t my usual stuff you see from me, but nonetheless this is a CandyDip ficlet requested by the-odd-girl, and oh my goodness I really hope you like it! (also it’s a lot shorter than I intended for it to be so I’m sorry for that too!)
Sitting against a tree just outside of the Mystery Shack, Dipper glanced around the very empty area for something to do, boredom gripping him tightly and refusing to let go. He hadn’t mean for his day to be him sitting against the tree doing nothing, but mabel was nowhere to be found and Wendy was probably out with Robbie, leaving him with little to do. He sighed and tugged down his hat over his eyes. “Maybe I’ll take a nap or something…”
“AUGH!” Falling over in surprise, Dipper tugged his hat back up, looking around wildly only to find… “… Hey… you’re Candy, right? Mabel’s friend Candy?”
The young girl smiled shyly down at him. “Mmhm. I am sorry if I frightened you, I didn’t mean to.” She shifted her backpack, fidgeting a little. “May I sit here with you?”
Dipper blinked. “Oh yeah, sure. Go ahead.” He moved aside to make room, watching her as she took a seat. He hadn’t interacted too much with Candy without Mabel and Grenda nearby so he was a little curious as to why she was here. “So uh… Candy…” Wow, he felt awkward. She smiled at him and he swallowed. “What… what brings you here? I thought you’d be with Mabel or Grenda or… something.”
Candy giggled. “Oh, well I was going for a walk today for some fresh air and I saw you over here and you looked quite bored so I thought I might give you some company! Oh, if that is okay, that is…” Another shy smile tugged at her lips.
He blinked again, head tilted slightly. “Oh yeah, no it’s fine. Thanks, actually… that’s really nice of you…” Falling quiet again, he began observing her quietly. He knew who she was, thanks to those few moments of interaction from the past, but he’d never actually sat down with any of Mabel’s friends and just talked.
Giggling again, Candy set her bag in her lap and looked up at him. “So Dipper, how are you liking Gravity Falls so far? Mabel has told me how much she loves it here, and she says you like it too, but I am curious to hear it from your own mouth.” She blushed lightly, hands playing idly with the bag’s zipper.
“Oh, me? Uh well it’s really not all that bad! I mean, I’ve met some pretty cool people here and I’ve seen a lot of really weird things…” he allowed a smile to cross his face. “I’m actually pretty glad we came. I’m not too sure I’ll want to leave!” Chuckling quietly, he adjusted his hat.
“Ah, I am glad you’re enjoying your time here so much!” Candy smiled widely, leaning back against the tree. “I am very glad that you and Mabel came as well. Mabel is the best friend Grenda and I have ever had and she has been so wonderful to us. I’m…” her voice trailed off a bit. “I don’t think I would want you both to leave either…” Her blush turned slightly darker and she glanced away.
Now that caught Dipper’s attention. “Wait, the both of us…? I mean, that’s really nice of you but… you and I haven’t really…” he began motioning with his hands, “talked a whole lot to each other, y’know? Why, um… why would you not want me to leave either?”
Candy quickly bit her lip and looked down at her bag, willing herself to calm down. “… Ah well… I… um…” Oh no, she couldn’t even form a proper sentence anymore! ‘It is okay…’ she thought to herself. ‘Just remember what Mabel and Grenda told you… relax… I can do this…!’ “I-I… I think you are very cool, D-Dipper…” she was nearly whispering now. “A-and I would…” she swallowed. “I would… like to get to know you better… i-if that’s okay!” She squeaked and hid her face in her hands.
Dipper sat there quietly, just staring at the poor girl with jaw dropped and eyes wide. Oh man wait, was she pretty much implying what he thought she was implying? Nah, there was no way! Nobody liked him… and there was Wendy…
Oh. He bit his lip at the thought of Wendy. Who was he kidding, really? She was so much older than him, so out of his league. And there was Robbie… he made a face. Yeah, she had Robbie, why would she even give Dipper a second thought? Wow… what was he even thinking…
Looking back at Candy, he allowed a smile to cross his face again. He had to admit… this was pretty cute, just watching her try and talk to him like this. It made him feel… dare he say, fuzzy inside. Heh, he was okay with this. He was really, really okay with this. Really, who was he to deny such a cute, sweet girl a request like that?
Getting to his feet slowly, he chuckled. “Hey… Candy?” When she finally lifted her blushing gaze to him, he held out a hand with a smile. “You uh… you wanna go… get some ice cream or something? I’m buying. And hey, maybe we could go for a walk too or… or something, I dunno…”
It was quiet for a moment before Candy smiled excitedly, quickly getting to her feet and throwing her bag across her shoulder. She took his hand and smiled up a little at him. “I think… I think I would like that very much…”
As she allowed Dipper to lead the way, Candy couldn’t help but feel the excitement swell in her chest. Things were going to be going very well for them in the future… she just knew it.
